Rising Politicians We Are Excited About

Laura Donovan

Laura Donovan, Ulster County Legislator

Laura Donovan is a financial planner, community advocate, and proud lifelong Hudson Valley resident serving her first term as Ulster County Legislator to bring transparent, accountable leadership to Marlborough. Through her work as a fiduciary financial advisor, Laura has helped hundreds of families across over 20 states create personalized financial roadmaps that reflect their values, goals, and challenges. Her work centers on ensuring financial tools and planning aren’t just for the wealthy, but are accessible to working people, small business owners, and anyone ready to take control of their future. She’s a co-founder of the Diaper Bank of Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan, which provides essential baby supplies to Hudson Valley families - another example of her hands-on approach to addressing community needs. Laura is bringing this same commitment to trust, empowerment, and practical solutions to her work in the Ulster County Legislature, where she works to ensure that the community thrives through accountable leadership and effective, people-centered policies.

Trevor Redl

Trevor Redl, Dutchess County Legislator

Trevor Redl is a Dutchess County Legislator representing District 1, elected in 2025 and now running for re-election. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Budget, Finance & Personnel Committee and as a member of the Government Services & Administration and Environment Committees. A dedicated community leader, Trevor is also the founder of the Poughkeepsie Weekly and Chair of the Town of Poughkeepsie Citizens Committee on Housing Affordability. He has worked across communities to advance housing affordability, strengthen public safety, support small businesses, and protect the environment.

A lifelong Dutchess County resident and Marist College graduate, Trevor believes in pragmatic, results-driven leadership that brings people together and puts problem-solving ahead of politics — building a stronger future for the Hudson Valley where opportunity expands and families can continue to afford to call this community home.

Alexandria Wojcik

Alexandria Wojcik, Mayor of New Paltz

Alexandria Wojcik is the Village of New Paltz's first-ever openly LGBTQIA+ mayor, and is positioned to be the first-ever woman elected to the position. An activist-in-office since 2019, Alex is in her 2nd term on the Village Board. She is all about meeting everybody where they are at, breaking down barriers, and democratizing processes and systems so that local government works for everyone.

Throughout her tenure in office, Alex has prioritized inclusive, intersectional constituent services. Since 2019, she’s set a new bar for constituent services on the hyper-local level by hosting dozens of “know your rights” trainings and informational workshops in collaboration with both campus and community groups. Alex serves as liaison to the Village’s Landlord-Tenant Relations Council, Environmental Policy Board, and Climate Smart Taskforce; she is also the Village’s Fair Housing Officer and Housing Smart Communities Taskforce Coordinator, and liaison to a dozen more Village boards, commissions, and councils. She has directly assisted 100s of tenants by connecting them with resources and information, and championing the passage of pro-housing legislation such as the Village’s short-term rental and good cause eviction laws. She has supported smart development, too, with the Village’s housing stock increasing by 25% since she took office. Alex is lead drafter of the Village’s countless memorializing resolutions which amplify the experiences of and advocate for the community’s most marginalized populations, as well as the planet. One of Alex’s proudest accomplishments has been providing the Free Food Fridge a permanent home outside Village Hall. Alex’s pet project has been to build a skate park, with the community’s skaters co-leading the process every step of the way; the project is set to break ground within the next year.

She lives with her two cats in downtown New Paltz, and spends her spare time writing poetry, hiking, camping, and attending music events all over the region.
